Hmm, I don’t think having big poles cluttering up the sidewalk does the streetscape any favors.

No, nor do I!

That “art installation” reminds me of one at a local museum a few years back when someone painted all of the tree trunks around the builing a hideous blue and claimed it was an artistic statement about the environment. There’s art, and then there’s vandalism, sez I. This is vandalism. Harrumph!

To be fair to the ‘artist’ they may look better at night when all lit up! I imagine it took the blue trees a while to return to normal!

I don’t know if the trees are back to normal yet. I haven’t been to the museum since before Covid. Here’s a closeup of one of the trees. It looks even worse than I remember. https://currier.org/event/open-call-for-applications/

I see what you mean, those trees certainly are bright and I can’t think it did the trees much good or the insect life that lived on them.

The blurb sounds like the product of Chinese whispers to me. 😉

Yes Doug, that seems the most likely explanation.

OMG those horrible columns are at The Landsdown! What an awful thing to do to the town where I grew up.

Hello Tony, yes I think locals would rather have some new toilets and shops back again. The Lansdowne is supposedly having a makeover.

It’s just not the Bournemouth where I grew up sadly. Better in some ways I’m sure, but it’s lost that “class” it had, with classic hotels, Westover Road etc. But I guess times change.

I’ve lived here 18 years so I’m not a local, but a lot has changed in that time. Town centres everywhere have changed to be fair. I’m in Southbourne and Southbourne Grove has got trendier and trendier with all sorts of interesting shops and eateries.

I do like the owl mural. Not sure about the “forest,” despite the sound and light effects and “perches.” Are those for birds, or is that just a way to describe uncomfortable seating?

Yes Audrey, I am wondering who or what will be perching. I didn’t see anyone perching nor the ubiquitous herring gulls!

Very few people around, I notice. It feels almost ‘post-apocalyptic’. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Yes only a few people around, I think it might come to life at night with university students. I don’t know this part of town I was just between buses, which is another story.
