Primary school leavers jump in the sea in their school uniforms to celebrate the end of the school year.

Time to leave the beach…

“Westerly” made me smile. Where does the wind come from? Westerly 🙂

Yes the westerly comes from the west and our prevailing wind is a south westerly. On a windy day if you walk west along the sea front you certainly know where the wind is coming from!

What a lovely advert for Bournemouth. The local tourist board should have you on their payroll!

My husband and I don’t like crowded beaches, unfortunately, because I do like to walk on the beach.

Ha ha Liz, you are not alone in that. You would not like the main beaches by the pier, they are manic at holiday times. The good thing about living near a beach is there are plenty of quiet days to have the beach to yourself.

When we lived in Virginia, we avoid Virginia Beach and went to a rural, out-of-the way community beach. There weren’t more than two or three other people there at any given time.

Looks like a very civilized beach, with perfect weather!

Hello Audrey, yes it is on the whole and more peaceful than Bournemouth’s main beach which gets manic on hot days.

Ever since living on the Exe Estuary and seeing what came out of the pipe from the sewage treatment works I have refused to swim in the sea even with blue flags proudly flying! However a walk along a beach and a paddle is brilliant.

Ugh, don’t blame you. A walk along the beach is unique.

Bournemouth at its best. I love the English seaside, and I am looking forward to 5 days away on the Lincolnshire coast at Sutton-on-Sea in September. (When the kids have gone back to school.)
Best wishes, Pete.

Hello Pete, yes we are an island nation and love to see the sea. In my road you could be in any suburb, except for the teenage herring gulls zooming around, but it is always good to go to the cliff top and see how big the sea and horizon are!

Yes it is, though at the waters edge it’s sometimes tricky getting in, but that’s for another blog!
