    1. Hello Liz, yes Tom Harvey does chainsaw art. I did see him in the summer, but there was a fence round him so I couldn’t get close enough to take a quick snap.
      I first heard of augmented reality, or some such when my friend told me she had an app on her phone to see dinosaurs walking around on the downs on the Isle of Wight, where in more recent times Alfred Tennyson strode.

  7. The carvings and benches are lovely, and it looks like a very nice walk. But why have an ‘augmented reality app’? Are younger people so shallow now that actual reality is no longer good enough? I think that’s sad.

  9. I love my nature walks, and enjoy posting pictures of them. That being said, I wouldn’t say “No” to the Augmented Reality until I tried it. It could be like walking in a book; a touch of fantasy. It could be plastic and ghastly. But I wouldn’t know until I opened it up.

    I have used Augmented Reality with a video game called Pokémon Go that came out about ten years ago. When I played it compulsively, it did distort my view of my surroundings. I think Augmented Reality falls under that category “Just cause we can, doesn’t mean we should.” Let’s use our discernment; make informed decisions on what technology we use.

      1. Lol! I realized after I commented that Pokémon Go is not a video game, but a mobile devise game. Even though I have played it, I am no expert! It uses GPS maps, but overlays the game on the map. When it was being developed, people sent in the GPS location of building signs, statues, etc, to the game developers, that made them into a spot where you can collect things needed for the game. Interesting technology. When it was released, they promoted it as a way to play and walk at the same time. Maybe so for the youngsters, but my husband and I were already avid walkers, and playing Pokémon Go while on our walk actually slows us down. And makes us distracted walkers. Not so good. My husband’s a “gamer”, and he says it lacks “game”. He likes video games with plots, and end-game. Pokémon Go doesn’t have that. I am not a gamer, and have found that these games light up a compulsion in me that ends up being a waste of my time. More than you wanted to know, lol!

      2. Ah now that is a much clearer idea. I have read of parents taking their kids out to ‘do’ Pokémon. My sons and son-in-law are all into gaming and younger son ( forty ) is still playing XBox across the miles with his group of old school friends! I’ve never got into gaming, too busy writing and blogging. I do play word games on my phone with friends.

      3. My 30 year old son was playing the Pokémon card games since he was six years old, and I didn’t really understand it. At least I have some understanding of the Pokémon world now. When it was first released, my son, daughter, son-in-law, nieces and nephews played. So it gave us a common interest. I like my word games with friends too. At least that uses my brain. I am finding the world of writing is amazingly time consuming! Now, back to some editing of a poem I scratched out last week!
