They loved it. It was before I lived down here, so at the time it didn’t really mean anything to me. But yes, what a place to wake up!

Yes been to some of those places, Dorset has a variety for sure. We took a boat trip close up to The Needles.

Yes, the best part is no cars allowed and only a twenty minute ferry ride from busy Poole. The last ferry back is five pm so it must be very quiet when all the visitors have left.

Yes just a tiny little place, I’m sure you have bigger islands with bears probably! This island is famous for being a stronghold for the beleaguered red squirrels.

The islands in New Hampshire and Vermont are in lakes, so I think they’re too small to support a bear population. Plenty of bear sightings in other places in the states, though, including my neighborhood.

Coincidentally, the news this morning featured a LOT of video footage of bears in our area chowing down in people’s backyards.

I’ve never heard of this island, or the other one you mentioned. Ignorance strikes again. I did read quite a few of Enid Blyton’s books as a kid, though. Looks like a fun expedition!

Years ago we had a Canadian girl at work ( her husband worked for the Canadian embassy ) and there were two things that astounded her – nobody had snow chains for their cars and nobody had heard of the city she came from!

I wonder what city that might have been. And tire chains aren’t needed here in Victoria, except for trips into the mountains or winter road trips to distant places.

Hello Joanne, it is rather unique. Apparently, according to the ferry captain, John Lewis has a 99 year lease out on the hotel.

A bit far for you to go now Pete! There are lots of our islands I haven’t visited yet. I see the Isle of Wight most days, except when it’s misty, but don’t seem to have gone there very often.
