I thought I would do an Advent Calendar this year with no idea what might happen each day. Way over East in Tier Three two little boys have hung up their dairy free advent calendars; rather wobbly as they were crocheted by me. No chocolates and apparently this year each pocket has an act of kindness.

Elves on shelves are a recent tradition here, with little to do with Christmas, but I couldn’t resist when I saw a boxful of elves at the garden centre.
Well done, lovely advent calender.

Thanks Clive, it didn’t look quite like the original pattern, but never mind.

Yes, when I made the first one I just put pictures ( recycled Xmas cards ) in them and my daughter had the idea to write things on the back of the cards.

I think Elf on the Shelf is a more recent phenomenon in America too. I certainly don’t remember hearing kids talk about this until the last decade of my teaching career.

Hmm I wonder who had the original idea, probably owner of an elf factory; well I am going to have childish fun moving him around every day.
