Silly Saturday – Glass and Frosted Grass

When your neighbour’s greenhouse is bigger than yours.

When Dracula’s roof needs repairing.

A seat in the sun.

Or perhaps you would prefer to linger with a beach view.

But don’t linger too long.

Or you could sit in the warm in an American diner…

…and still be by the English seaside.

When you order a game on Amazon and get the German version. At least it comes mit 2 mini-erweiterungen. If you haven’t played Qwirkle it’s good fun and you can probably guess it can be played in any language! The rules come in several languages, none of them English; well we shouldn’t smugly assume there is always an English translation. The omission of English is probably due to Brexit, another annoyance for we Remainers! Luckily I found a good YouTube video ( American ) on how to play when friends came over to be introduced to the game.

    1. Hello Audrey, if there is a bench digging crew they are fighting a losing battle against the wind and the bulldozer. The wind blows the sand onto the promenade and the tractor comes along and clears the promenade… Yes great diner, it was busy, walkers coming in from the biting wind , but I thought customers might not like being photographed so I waited for a quiet moment.

  1. Quirkle looks fun. Nothing like a hot drink after a windy walk on the beach. I wonder if the councilhave heard of King Canute? Sounds as if their efforts to keep the sand on the beach are about as successful as his 😀

    1. Yes I didn’t realise how much work goes into beaches. Once humans interfere by constructing promenades etc the natural process of sand being washed away, but replenished by crumbling cliffs is gone for ever. So the council has to pump sand up from out at sea and then it gets blown onto the promenade!

  2. I like those benches that are dedicated to dead people who loved to sit near the spots where they are placed. We always read the plaques on them when we go to the seaside, so the deceased live on for a few moments at least.
The only board game I ever really enjoyed playing was Monopoly, but never in German! 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.
