…or you can join in sewing diamonds and hexagons for the traditional patchwork quilt that is being made.

Yes, I spoke to someone who said she had made some without knowing what they were going to do with them. They must have had a lot of volunteers!

Yes it certainly is Jill and earlier today my oldest grandson was marching there with the air cadets at the big Remembrance Day service and was very impressed.

Yes indeed Colin and with a fascinating history, like being the tallest building in Europe for centuries before the spire fell down! We should never take our great buildings for granted and the brilliant minds and hands that created them.

It was so much a part of my life that I totally took it for granted for years – the crescent of buildings in your photo was, in my youth, the living quarters for The White Hart receptionists so, being a waiter, I spent quite a few hours there – and then I wandered back into it one day and the magnificence of it all was almost overwhelming.

Well spotted Colin, yes I think it could be quite unique having a castle so close! My grandson marched with the air cadets from the castle to the cathedral for the remembrance service on Sunday.

I did the same thing with the scouts many times way back before the world had whiskers. Did you go to watch? It’s weird how proud we become of our grandchildren.

Hello Debby, yes we must never take them for granted, each cathedral is unique, but all need plenty of loving care and being a stone mason is still an important career.

Janet, thank you for bringing Lincoln Cathedral to us all through this beautiful post! I’ve been twice to the city and never had the time to go in although I love the beauty, peace and serenity of cathedrals. This seems to have all these elements in abundance! The doves look majestic and what a wonderful idea with the patchwork quilt, although I don’t think anyone would appreciate my efforts! 😀

Thanks Anika, yes lots to see in old cities and not enough time. The patchwork pieces and paper shapes were all ready for anyone to have a go, without having to sew a quilt together!
