What do you think of the décor?

While the servants are working lets go outside for a stroll.

      1. Oh NO!

Mind you, I’m just writing about Ingleton in Yorkshire and train trouble is by no means a new thing. I was delighted to find out that in the 1800s, two rival train companies, Midland and North West, owned the lines on either side of the viaduct in the town. They refused to connect the lines across the viaduct and couldn’t agree on sharing Midland’s station, so North West built its own station a mile out of town. This forced passengers to walk a mile between stations in all weathers, carrying their luggage, usually watching their connecting train depart because the companies deliberately mis-timed their timetables! The walk passengers had to undertake was down through the valley and up the other side, because the viaduct was officially a train track.

      2. Hello Jacqueline, I’m back just this evening, with a smooth trip on South West trains, no disasters from Storm Bert. That’s quite a story about Ingleton, I can imagine locals saying it was much better when they just had horses.

  1. The decor is a bit OTT for me and think of the number of people it would take to look after it. You would have to be very rich, or have hoards of tourists arriving every day or share it with a lot of other people living with you. I think I’ll stay put!

  2. Many, many years since I visited but I remember it made an impression. Is this the one with the 7 follies or am I thinking of another NT property? I used to have membership but sadly no longer have the mobility to get out for day trips.

    1. Hello Debby, I just got back from my trip and rescued you from the spam folder! There are many stories over the centuries to go with that house. We took some Australian visitors to the house and the husband asked the room attendant if one could read the books and she recoiled in horror!
