Well it is Silly Sunday Robbie ! That quote is on the wall of Margate station toilets . The railway station is very near to the seafront shelter where TS Eliot sat and wrote The Wasteland while convalescing.
Yes the wall mural is a strong reminder of the man made hazards creatures face in the ocean.
Look at the lines connecting the letters between TS Eliot and toilets. He was making fun of his name. How many words can you make with your name Robbie?
Wow, Janet, you had a strange stroll for sure with the wonderful captures. The murals are impressive. I love train stations.
My husband and I are traveling to spend time with his family for Thanksgiving.
Have a wonderful week!
Thanks Miriam. I went by train to stay with my daughter and family. When the journey goes smoothly I love trains and Margate Station has an impressive entrance hall. More about trains in future blogs. Enjoy Thanksgiving.
We went to Bexhill one winter for a mini break. specifically for the Art Deco, I loved it. Broadstairs is a quick bus hop from Margate and very different! Mum and Dad took me on holiday there twice when they just had me.
I see Pete beat me to it Colin! Margate had the advantage of being a place my daughter and son-in-law could afford to buy a house and where S-I-L could commute back to London on HS1 ( which isn’t high speed all the way! ) It is full of DFLs – Down from London. Like Bournemouth and lots of places there are dire parts and good things. Lots of arty and literary people and interesting shops in the old part of town.
Margate was the seaside choice of my South London youth. Mods and Rockers, Dreamland fairground and amusements, and the shabby glory of English resorts in the 1960s. It has undergone some ‘gentrification’, and also become associated with ‘artists’, but it is undeniably still Margate. (Not ‘East’ though, that is Southend. Margate it definitely ‘South-East’.)
T.S. Eliot Toilets? That’s a new one on me!

Hello Liz, probably not one of the greatest quotes from him!

HI Janet, the TS Eliot toilets didn’t make sense to me. The picture of the seal caught in netting is so sad.

Hello Judy, most people must have been sheltering out of the rain or bitter wind!

I’ve never been to Margate, but I think that I should.

There are better places to see, Colin. The Art Deco wonders of Frinton and Bexhill, or the Dickensian splendour of Broadstairs.

Sadly, all I know of Bexhill comes from Spike Milligan’s ‘Hitler, My Part in his Downfall’ 😬

I cannot get enough of Art Deco architecture, but I’m not so good with ‘arty’ and ‘literary’. I’ll keep it on my list though 😉

Hello Colin, yes I love Art Deco and I am sure if WW2 had not intervened everywhere would be adorned with Art Deco.

I love anagrams. I am surprised I never heard the TS Eliot one. The Sunday Stroll is a treat, even on Monday.

Toilets were hilarious. But I loved the tree growing through the floor, left to live. 🙂

Hello Debby, yes the TOILETS seem to have caused most comments. The tree will be appearing again on a visit to the gallery.
