Scientists now believe that carrots DO help you see in the dark, probably because carrots themselves can actually see in the dark when they are underground.

Do you worry about what you read in the newspaper?

Do you worry who is watching you when you are out shopping?
So you should, it is all true, so why not just turn to the puzzle pages…

…and get even more fraught,

or you could relax by counting plastic.

Bored with shopping, your favourite shops closing down? Go and play the piano instead.

And on a lighter note, not a piano note, wildlife experts are worried about the demise of the common rat, which may not be as common as previously thought. Householders and gardeners can help by providing the environment that rats need and also putting out food for them.

I have no problem with fewer rats!

Hello Liz, I’m sure you would miss them if they were gone!

Oh, I’m sure I wouldn’t! I’m terrified of them. And mice. And snakes. And bats.

Hello Liz, we had pet white mice when I was young… but that’s another story.

We had a guinea pig when I was a kid. Them and hamsters are about the only rodents I’m not afraid of.

Yes we had guinea pigs, very adorable. I am sensing a theme here, is it rodents with long tails that make people squeamish?

The long tails and the sharp teeth.

That carrot picture was a lol moment…and now I finally have the answer as to why carrots are so good for our sight. And if the lights go out in the future, I’ll be sure to grab one to walk around with for an even better view.🥕

Yes Bruce, a true light bulb moment, we have a lot to thank carrots for.

I thought you were never more than a foot away from a rat!
Don’t like the look of that Sudoku…
Thanks for the smile!

Yikes!
I don’t mind rats, but I wouldn’t want one as a pet.

One year in junior school my son’s class had a rat as a class pet, he was very sweet.

Some friends of ours had rats for pets. They were very cute. I prefer dogs, though! 🙂

Well … I can’t play the piano, I do work Sudoku puzzles, but that arrow one blows my mind — no thanks! So, I’ll just keep doing what I do, and when I’m really stressed, there’s always a furry critter waiting to sit on my lap for pats!

Hello Jill, yes that puzzle blows my mind, every Saturday I say to myself ‘I can do this’ but rarely succeed.

I looked at it for several minutes and couldn’t even find a good place to start!

Haven’t seen that sort of Sudoku before. Great fun for a geek like me. Thank you.
btw no shortage of rats here.

Hello Crossbar, the puzzle is in the Weekend ‘I’ and I have completed it very few times. We have a few rat stories in our road!

I’d better ration myself on the sudoku (what is the plural of that?). There’ll be no time left for the rest of my life.

I read that as sudokarrot and wondered what a phonetically spelt pseudo-carrot might be and what its optics covered. I think my brain needs a soak and a wash at 30C. Thank you for forcing my hand.

I love the idea of a sudokarrot, eat it or solve it?

Do not worry about rats becoming extinct. There are plenty here even with 5 cats patrolling this plot! And we have mice as well. I know because the cats present them to me. Given how fast they breed they could repopulate the whole country in a few months.

I thought our foxes might scare our rats away, but it seems not!

Food for rats? Are they not pests? Should not be exterminated?

If they go down into the London sewers and underground stations at night, they wil discover where all the rats have gone.
Best wishes, Pete.

Another good reason to avoid hospitals, especially during storms. I heard some of the rats are growing big fluffy tails and masquerading as squirrels. I think they are being undercounted.

Oh Oh, I better count the squirrels in my garden.

I love rats! They’re cute and smart and have a vital role in the urban food chain. My neighbor leaves food out for the feral cats; the rats eat the cat food; the cats eat the rats…and I’m forced to adopt the kittens she brings over.

Yes we’re encouraged to make things nice for wild life EXCEPT rats? But I imagine your neighbour might not be popular with all the neighbours, those who don’t like rats or cats?
