When your neighbour’s greenhouse is bigger than yours.

When Dracula’s roof needs repairing.

A seat in the sun.

Or perhaps you would prefer to linger with a beach view.

But don’t linger too long.

Or you could sit in the warm in an American diner…

…and still be by the English seaside.

When you order a game on Amazon and get the German version. At least it comes mit 2 mini-erweiterungen. If you haven’t played Qwirkle it’s good fun and you can probably guess it can be played in any language! The rules come in several languages, none of them English; well we shouldn’t smugly assume there is always an English translation. The omission of English is probably due to Brexit, another annoyance for we Remainers! Luckily I found a good YouTube video ( American ) on how to play when friends came over to be introduced to the game.

How was your Saturday?

Cool diner!

Yes Liz, I wonder why we all love diners.

In my case, diners have a positive association with my dad’s taking my brother and me to diners for “don’t tell your mother” treats.

That would have been fun.

Qwirkle looks like fun. I’ve never heard of it before. The buried bench on the beach is a funny photo.

Is there an official bench-digging-out crew? And Liz is right–that diner looks cool!

Hello Audrey, if there is a bench digging crew they are fighting a losing battle against the wind and the bulldozer. The wind blows the sand onto the promenade and the tractor comes along and clears the promenade… Yes great diner, it was busy, walkers coming in from the biting wind , but I thought customers might not like being photographed so I waited for a quiet moment.

Hello Joanne, I had to look up spaB, yes Qwirkle definitely is spaB.

Quirkle looks fun. Nothing like a hot drink after a windy walk on the beach. I wonder if the councilhave heard of King Canute? Sounds as if their efforts to keep the sand on the beach are about as successful as his 😀

Yes I didn’t realise how much work goes into beaches. Once humans interfere by constructing promenades etc the natural process of sand being washed away, but replenished by crumbling cliffs is gone for ever. So the council has to pump sand up from out at sea and then it gets blown onto the promenade!

I like those benches that are dedicated to dead people who loved to sit near the spots where they are placed. We always read the plaques on them when we go to the seaside, so the deceased live on for a few moments at least.
The only board game I ever really enjoyed playing was Monopoly, but never in German! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Hello Pete, there are plenty of benches to read around here, the sad ones of course are young people. I like Monopoly, but that requires stamina, a good holiday game.

How quaint! Two things you don’t see in Southern California: empty beaches and vintage diners. You’re igniting my wanderlust.

Hello Judy. It was a very windy day, though people were still out walking. The diner was busy when I first went in, then I took some pictures as soon as it got quiet.

Qwirkle is one of my fave games! We’ve left many an addict in our wake…
It works just as well in German!

The game looks great. How does it go with wine?

Hello Colin, Qwirkle goes very well with wine or a Baileys.
